How to join the ICCB

Junior group leader positions

You are a computational scientist in an area related to our mission and on your step to scientific independence? If you are planning on applying for third-party funding, for example within the Emmy-Noether, ERC Starter, Max Eder, Sofja Kovalevskaja, or similar programmes, the ICCB might be the right place for you! Please get in touch with Roland Schwarz to find out if and how we can support you.

Postdoctoral Fellowships and MD/PhD positions

If you have would like to do your PhD with us or have recently obtained a PhD in a relevant area and are interested in working in one of the ICCB research groups, please have a look at some of the applications posted below or directly apply to the lab of interest via the Groups page.

Master students and interns

If you are looking for internships or opportunities to conduct your Master thesis research in one of the groups, please directly contact one of the group leaders via the Groups page.

Open positions - Schwarzlab

Cancer genomics and evolution

Schwarzlab - Cologne

PhD or Postdoc in Algorithms for Chromatin Architecture

About the project

Using the Genome Architecture Mapping (GAM) data, you will develop new algorithms for haplotype reconstruction and detection of structural variants in aneuploid genomes. You will apply these methods to cancer cell lines and other aneuploid model systems to gain new insights into how chromosomal instability affects chromatin structure. The project will be a collaboration with Prof. Dr Ana Pombo at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association, Berlin, who has developed GAM in her lab and who will provide the primary experimental data. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary and collaborative group of bioinformaticians and experimentalists within the DFG Priority Programme "Spatial Genome Architecture in Development and Disease" (SPP 2202).

About you

Ideal candidates will have a Masters or PhD degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics or a related field, and a strong interest in quantitative and epigenetics research. Prior experience in method development or the analysis of chromatin structure data or other genomics data is a plus. Successful candidates should be enthusiastic about working in a highly interdisciplinary environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team are required.
